The Suzuki DR 800 S Big touring enduro model appeared in 1990 as a successor to the DR750S Big model, which was modernized by increasing the engine displacement (727 → 779 cm³), due to which the performance slightly increased (52 → 54 hp, 58 → 62 Nm). In terms of its configuration, the engine remains the same: a 1-cylinder air-cooled unit, with one camshaft, 4 valves and two Mikuni BST33SS carburetors.

 

In fact, the Suzuki DR 800 S Big model is an attempt to create a production motorcycle in the image and likeness of rally bikes, and in particular, the DR-Z car. The motorcycle was intended mainly for foreign markets (Europe), so most models are found there, and not in Japan.

 

Among the key features of the model, one should also highlight the Dakar-style body kit, adjustable rear suspension, 5-speed gearbox, 24-liter fuel tank (29-liter in versions before 1991) and 185 kg of dry weight.

 

In 1991, the Suzuki DR800S Big model was restyled, receiving a new fairing design, dual exhaust, a more comfortable and wider saddle, an extended swingarm, a new instrument panel, and an upgraded engine starting system. The capacity of the fuel tank decreases (29 → 24 l), the diameter of the front brake disc increases (280 → 300 mm), the diameter of the fork stays increases (41 → 43 mm), and the weight and size parameters change.

 

In 1995, new carburetors with a throttle position sensor (TPS) were installed on the model.
