The KTM LC4 Enduro enjoys a good reputation, especially because of its unmistakable single-cylinder engine in terms of appearance, performance and sound, which KTM has been offering since 1987 (later in two displacement sizes, 400 and 600 cm3) and continuously improved. Different expansion stages of the engine can be recognized, among other things, by the names of the LC4 models 600, 620, 625, 640 and 660. (The name SC refers to sportier offshoots ("Super Competition"), whose engines have a smaller oil circuit.

The water-cooled four-valve engine has a relatively high compression ratio, a short stroke and a very low flywheel mass, so that its engine characteristics differ significantly from other single-cylinder engines from Suzuki and MZ or from a BMW F 650. The frame of the KTM LC4 Enduro is lavishly painted and the suspension components are made of high-quality materials. What is particularly noteworthy, however, is the engine, which is robust and easily accessible for maintenance if it is well cared for.
