The Kawasaki KLE 650 Versys Enduro-Tourism Motorcycle model appeared at the end of 2006 as a continuation of THE KLE line and a replacement for the obsolete Kawasaki KLE 500.

The motorcycle was based on the frame, engine and running part of the Kawasaki ER-6 road series, but in contrast Versys had longer-stroke suspension, adjustable upside-down front fork (on ER-6 - normal, unadjustable), other frame, front half-wrap and other engine settings (reduce maximum power by improving low - and medium-speed drive).
