Yamaha Virago 535, a cruiser-class motorcycle, debuted in 1987 and was aimed at the North American and European markets, especially the UK. The full model designation is Yamaha XV535 Virago. A version for the Japanese domestic market, the Yamaha Virago 400, which differed exclusively in engine displacement, was created based on this model.

 

The Yamaha XV535 Virago is a classic mid-size cruiser, characterized by spoked wheels, an air-cooled, two-cylinder V-twin engine, and shaft drive. At that time, Japanese motorcycle manufacturers were only gaining experience in creating cruisers, so models of those years were distinguished by a high degree of boost and demonstrated good dynamic performance. For example, the Yamaha XV 535 Virago developed power up to 46 horsepower, while the Yamaha Drag Star 650, which succeeded it and had a larger engine, produced only 40 hp. This feature, combined with a relatively light weight, was characteristic of all Japanese cruisers with a short wheelbase of that time.
