In 1989, Yamaha introduced the "Yamaha XTZ750 Super Tenere" motorcycle, created under the influence of the Yamaha YZE750/850 rally machine. This motorcycle, also known as the Yamaha Super Tenere 750, was intended for export to European countries and was also sold in Oceania and South America. It was not offered in the domestic Japanese market.

 

A liquid-cooled, in-line two-cylinder engine with a displacement of 749 cc was used as the power unit. This engine produced up to 69 horsepower and 67 Nm of torque, which was considered an outstanding figure for civilian Dual Sport motorcycles of that era. A feature of the engine was a dry-sump lubrication system and a five-valve cylinder head.

 

The chassis of the Yamaha XTZ750 Super Tenere included a steel tubular frame, long-travel suspension, disc brakes front and rear, and large spoked wheels.

 

Other features of the model include a 26-liter fuel tank, a five-speed gearbox, and a wet weight of 226 kg.   

 

The smaller Yamaha XTZ660 Tenere model was developed based on the Super Tenere 750.
