The Yamaha XT1200Z Super Tenere, a touring enduro motorcycle, was first showcased in March 2010 at the Dortmund Motorcycle Show in Germany. This motorcycle became the flagship model in Yamaha's touring enduro lineup, embodying advanced motorcycle technologies. The introduction of the Yamaha XT1200Z Super Tenere was driven by the desire to compete with BMW and Triumph, as well as to strengthen its position in the European heavy touring enduro market.
At the heart of the Yamaha XT1200Z Super Tenere is a liquid-cooled, in-line 2-cylinder engine with a displacement of 1199 cc, producing 112 horsepower and 117 Nm of torque. The engine is optimized for confident low-end torque, with peak performance achieved at 6000-7250 rpm. The engine features electronic fuel injection, dual spark plugs per cylinder, electronic throttle control (YCC-T), TCS traction control with multiple power modes, and a dry-sump lubrication system. The ignition configuration mimics the sound and operation of a V-twin engine (Crossplane technology).
Key features of the Yamaha XT1200Z Super Tenere include a steel frame, shaft drive to the rear wheel, fully adjustable suspension (43mm inverted forks at the front and a monoshock at the rear), powerful 4-piston combined brakes with ABS, and a 23-liter fuel tank.
